Ya Allah, this love so complete
Penetrates me so deep
Yes, sadness weighs me down
But happiness and contentment shakes me sound
“Bittersweet”—blah! such an inadequate way
It’s “lovelyhurthappiness” that has a little say
And now my tears caress my smile
And this brightness could defy any mile of style
As you dance inside my heart
It gives a joyful little start
Ya Allah I am so tearfully grateful
No emotion could touch me that’s hateful

I remember second grade- I offered you my ice cream, he knocked it out of my hand, you laughed- that was pretty funny, right?
I remember third grade- your parents couldn’t afford lunch again, I gave you mine, you shared it with him.
I remember fourth grade- I asked you to the party, they laughed…
This is sad, yes, but so fucking rad. Excuse my French, [y’all know I don’t usually curse] but seriously? This is someone who loved, and loved passionately and truthfully without regret but with pride, honor and beauty.
I don’t know if I have the saying correct [I heard it in Japanese first] but it’s something to the effect of, “The bruised apple is the sweetest.” Meaning a shallow person may judge the apple as ugly and injured, but in fact an apple expends more energy on the injury and therefore when you bite into it you taste it’s extra sweetness.
You all should envy, not pity. This is a reflection of someone that was true and brave and has truly lived. Who can say the same?
I saw grief drinking a cup of sorrow and called out, “It tastes sweet, does it not?” “You’ve caught me,” grief answered, “and you’ve ruined my business, how can I sell sorrow when you know it’s a blessing?” – Rumi
